November 27, 2023 — A nationwide recall has been issued for TING Athlete’s Foot Spray due to toxic benzene contamination.
The manufacturer, Insight Pharmaceuticals, recalled two lots of TING 2% Miconazole Nitrate Athlete’s Foot Spray Antifungal Spray Powder after two samples tested positive for elevated levels of benzene.
The recall involves Lot Code 0H88645 and Lot Code 0H88645.
Benzene is not an ingredient that was intentionally added to the product, but “unexpected levels of benzene came from the propellant that sprays the product out of the can,” according to the recall.
Benzene is a chemical that can cause cancer in people. Exposure to benzene can happen by breathing it in the air, absorbing it through the skin, or swallowing it.
No injuries were reported, but exposure to benzene can result in leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow and blood disorders which can be life-threatening, according to the recall.
Consumers who bought the recalled products should stop using it immediately and appropriately discard it after taking a picture of the lot code on the bottom of the can, which is necessary for a full refund.
