UPDATE: Cooper Tire Recalls 430,000 Light Truck Tires

In February 2021, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. issued a recall for 430,298 light truck tires due to a risk of sidewall bulges that can cause a sidewall separation, sudden loss of air pressure, and a tire blowout. This increases the risk of a crash.

The recall covers multiple sizes of certain Discoverer, Evolution, Courser, Deegan, Adventurer, Hercules, Back Country, Multi-Mile, Wild Country and Big O tires that were manufactured between February 1, 2018 and December 1, 2019.

Cooper Tire Recalls Mastercraft and Cooper Passenger Tires

In February 2021, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. issued a recall (PDF) for 11,957 Mastercraft and Cooper standard passenger tires due to a risk of tread separation and tire failure, which could lead to a vehicle crash and serious injuries or death.

Cooper Tire recalled the following tires:

  • Mastercraft LSR Grand Touring Tires (Size 225 / 55R17)
  • Cooper CS5 Grand Touring Tires (Size 225 / 55R17)

The recall only involves tires that were produced on certain dates between July 2020 and January 2021.

The recalled tires may have a low tread gauge in the shoulder slot area of the tire. This condition may cause cracking at the base of the shoulder slots, which could lead to tread separation. If the problem goes undetected, tire failure may occur.

Drivers may notice conditions like a ride disturbance, or in certain cases, problems with vehicle steering or ride.

As of February 2021, Cooper Tire said it has not received any reports of property damage, injury or death associated with any of the recalled tires.

Cooper Tire will notify owners who have provided contact information. All tires found to have an affected DOT identification number will be replaced and scrapped.

Consumers who had their tires replaced before the recall may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.
