Yokohama Tire Recall
November 28, 2018 — Yokohama Tire Corp. recalled approximately 529 of the Yokohama RY023 tires, size 295/75R22.5 (14G), with DOT date code 2318.
What is the Problem?
The recalled Yokohama tires may have been manufactured with an out-of-spec undertread compound and may separate in service.
Tire Tread Separation Hazard
The recalled Yokohama tires may have been produced with an improperly manufactured rubber compound. As a result, the rubber adhesion may not be adequate. This could result in tire tread separation and a tire blowout.
The NHTSA warns that if a tread separation occurs when the vehicle is in use, there may be a loss of vehicle control or a truck accident:
“If the tread separates, the driver may experience a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.”
What Should I Do?
Yokohama has notified owners of the recall and will provide a replacement free of charge. Dealers will inspect and replace the tires, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 29, 2018. Owners may contact Yokohama customer service at 1-800-722-9888.
