Country Eggs LLC Announces Recall After Salmonella Outbreak
In August 2025, Country Eggs LLC announced a recall for large brown cage-free eggs that were labeled as “Sunshine Yolks” or “Golden Yolks” due to an outbreak of Salmonella that sickened at least 95 people in California and other states since January 2025.
How Many People Got Sick?
Health officials are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella linked to eggs. At least 95 people have been sickened in 14 states since January 2025, including 73 illnesses reported in California, according to the CDC Outbreak Advisory.
The states reporting illnesses include: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington.
How To Identify Recalled Eggs
The recall involves large brown cage-free “Sunshine Yolks” and “Omega-3 Golden Yolks” eggs that were delivered to grocery stores and food-service distributors in California and Nevada.
The eggs have sell-by dates between July 1, 2025 through September 18, 2025. They were packaged in individual retail cartons, labeled as:
- Nagatoshi Produce: Code Dates sell by: 7/1/25 through 9/16/25 — Code On Carton: CA 7695
- Misuho: Code Dates sell by: 7/1/25 through 9/16/25 — Code On Carton: CA 7695
- Nijiya Markets: Code Dates sell by: 7/1/25 through 9/16/25 — Code On Carton: CA 7695
The recall also includes some eggs that were sold in bulk-size containers for food-service, including:
- Country Eggs LARGE BROWN SUNSHINE YOLKS: Code Dates sell by: 7/1/25 – 9/16/25
Country Eggs LLC said it has suspended production of this product while the FDA and the company investigate the source of the Salmonella contamination issue.
What Should I Do?
Customers who bought any of the egg products affected by the recall should not eat them. The product can be safely disposed of, or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Symptoms of Salmonella
People who ate the recalled eggs, or were exposed due to cross-contamination, may develop food poisoning with Salmonella.
The symptoms of Salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. The symptoms usually start 6 hours to 6 days after swallowing Salmonella. Most people recover in 4 to 7 days, but some people experience severe illnesses that require hospitalization.
