Electra E-Bikes Recalled After Serious Injury Reported
In February 2025, Trek Bicycle Corporation (the parent company of Electra) recalled hundreds of Electra E-Bikes after a person was severely injured in a crash when the rear fender loosened and hit the rear wheel.
What Electra E-Bikes Are Being Recalled?
The recall involves two models of Electra E-Bikes:
- Electra Navigator Go! E-Bikes: Model years 2021 and 2022, sold in Matte Nautilus Blue with map/ocean graphics
- Electra Ace of Spades Go! E-Bikes: Model years 2018, 2021 and 2022, sold in Matte Black with a gold spade
What is the Problem?
The rear fender can come loose and can contact the rear wheel, which can stop the bike unexpectedly and cause the rider to lose control and crash.
Trek explained the problem in a Electra E-Bike Safety Recall Notice:
“Certain bolts attaching the rear fender to the bike do not contain threadlocker, and can loosen during shipping or while riding. If the bolts loosen and fall out, the fender can rotate under the rear wheel, and you could lose control of the bicycle and fall.”
How Many People Were Injured?
Trek received 2 reports of of the rear fender coming loose and making contact with the rear wheel. One person suffered serious injuries in a crash, including a fractured shinbone, meniscus tear, and scrapes.
Where Were These E-Bikes Sold?
The recall involves about 927 e-bikes that were sold from June 2018 through August 2023 at Trek-owned bicycle stores, independent bike shops, and online at www.electra.trekbikes.com for about $3,000.
What Should I Do?
Customers should immediately stop using these recalled e-bikes and contact an authorized Trek or Electra retailer to receive a free repair to replace the rear fender bolts.
