45,000 Lectric E-Bikes Recalled for Brake Failures
In September 2023, Lectric eBikes recalled about 45,000 electric bicycles after riders were injured when the brakes failed without warning.
What Happened?
Lectric received 4 reports from riders who experienced sudden brake failures on their e-bikes. Two people suffered injuries, such as cuts, scrapes, and a broke bone, after crashing due to the brake failures.
What is the Problem?
Lectric explained that the mechanical disc brakes located on the front and rear of e-bike can fail suddenly, causing a sudden loss of braking power. Riders may lose control and crash, which poses a life-threatening safety hazard.
Was My Lectric E-Bike Recalled?
The recall involves mechanical disc brake calipers on the following Lectric e-bike models:
- XP 3.0 Black
- XP 3.0 Long- Range Black
- XP Step-Thru 3.0 Black
- XP Step-Thru 3.0 White
- XP Step-Thru 3.0 Long Range
- XP Step-Thru 3.0 Long Range White
These recalled e-bikes were sold nationwide online at lectricebikes.com from November 2022 through May 2023 for $1,000 to $1,200.
What Should I Do?
