Fagor EZ Lock Pressure Cooker Lawsuit
In February 2021, a pressure cooker lawsuit was filed by a woman who was burned by hot food and steam that exploded out of a Fagor EZ Lock Pressure Cooker.
The lawsuit was filed by Mirsada M., a 43 year-old woman from New York who was burned by her pressure cooker on February 23, 2018.
According to the lawsuit, her injuries occurred as a result of the failure of the pressure cooker’s so-called “safety” features, which did not lock the lid until all of the pressure in the pot was released.
Instead, she was able to easily open the lid when there was still a dangerous amount of built-up pressure, heat, and steam inside the pot, which caused its “scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker” and onto her body, according to the lawsuit.
According to the complaint:
“When the lid is removed under such circumstances, the pressure trapped within the unit causes the scalding hot contents to be projected from the unit and unto the surrounding area.”
The manufacturer is accused of selling defective pressure cookers to consumers without adequate warnings about the serious safety risks, putting profits over public safety, failing to recall the Fagor EZ Lock Pressure Cooker, and failing to redesign it to fix known safety hazards.
The Fagor EZ Lock Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on February 3, 2021 against Zavor America Inc. (d/b/a Fecna America Inc., f/k/a Fagor America Inc.) in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York — Case Number 1:21-cv-00562.
