May 1, 2015 — After receiving dozens of complaints, Felt Bicycles Inc. has recalled about 200 cruiser-style bicycles with defective brakes that can fail.
The Irvine, California-based company has received 26 reports of incidents. Fortunately, none of them resulted in any injuries. However, the defect is very serious and poses a crash hazard.
All of the bikes were equipped with one-speed and coaster brakes.
Felt is recalling the following bicycles:
- Deep Six: “Felt” and “Deep Six” marked on the frame of the bike, sold in black cherry with white sidewall tires, and serial number YI31106188 through YI31106287.
- El Guapo: “Felt” and “El Guapo” printed on the frame of the bike, sold in matte black with white tires, and serial numbers YI31106288 through YI31106387.
The serial number is printed on the bottom bracket. The bikes were sold for about $600-750. They were available at specialty retail stores throughout the United States between June 2014 and March 2015.
Recommendation
Felt asks consumers to stop using the bikes and bring them in for service:
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact your local Felt bicycle dealer for a free inspection and replacement of the rear hub cog/driver.”
