September 16, 2025 — A lawsuit has been filed against Amazon by a teenage girl who was severely burned by a tabletop fire pit accident.
The lawsuit was filed by Imari T., who was 17 years old in September 2024, when she was burned by a tabletop fire pit accident.
Her injuries were caused by a portable Poofzy-brand fire pit that her parents purchased from a Chinese-based seller on Amazon.com.
According to her lawsuit, she was burned when a relative tried to re-light the fire pit by pouring liquid rubbing alcohol. An invisible flame in the fire pit ignited the fuel vapors from the container of rubbing alcohol, which sparked a dangerous explosion called “flame jetting.”
She suffered severe burns to her upper body, arms, right leg, and abdomen, which resulted in significant pain and suffering.
Her lawsuit accuses the manufacturer and Amazon.com of failing to provide adequate warnings about “flame jetting” and the burn hazards of tabletop fire pits. Instead, the instructions encourage people to use highly-flammable liquid alcohol as a fuel source.
Her fire pit lawsuit was filed against Amazon on August 18, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina (Spartanburg Division) — Case Number 7:25-cv-11131-DCC.
Tragically, fire pit accidents continue to happen on a routine basis. In June 2025, a 10-year-old girl was severely burned and 5 others were injured in tabletop fire pit accident in New Jersey. Three of the victims suffered life-threatening or significant burns.
