UPDATE: Class Action Lawsuit Filed for Snuga Swing Recall
In October 2024, a proposed Snuga Swing Class Action Lawsuit was filed against Fisher-Price and Mattel after about 2 million Snuga Swings were recalled due to a deadly suffocation hazard.
The lawsuit was filed by Destini B., a woman who said she never would have purchased the Snuga Swing for her newborn daughter if she had known about the risk of suffocation and death.
She called the recall “inadequate,” demanded a full refund for the $160 swing rather than a $25 credit, and accused Fisher-Price of failing to fully disclose the product’s deadly safety risks to parents.
Her lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Corut for the Western District of New York – Case Number 1:24-cv-00992.
Fisher-Price Recalls 2 Million Snuga Swings After 5 Deaths Reported
In October 2024, Fisher-Price recalled more than 2 million Snuga Swings due to a suffocation hazard after 5 deaths were reported.
How Many Swings Were Recalled?
The recall involves all models of Fisher-Price Snuga Swings that were sold since 2010, including around 2.1 million swings that were sold in the U.S., 99,000 swings that were sold in Canada, and 500 in Mexico.
What Is The Problem?
Fisher-Price Snuga Swings should never be used for sleep. Bedding materials like pillows or blankets should never be added to it. Babies can suffocate to death if they roll onto their stomach, or twist onto their side. This can result in suffocation or death if their face is trapped against the fabric.
What Causes Babies To Suffocate?
If the Snuga Swing is used for sleep, or bedding material is added, it increases the risk of a baby suffocating to death on the headrest and body-support insert on the seat pad, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warning on October 10, 2024.
How Many Babies Died?
Tragically, between 2012 and 2022, at least 5 babies suffocated to death in a Snuga Swing when it was being used for sleep. The infants were between the ages of 1 month to 3 months old. In most incidents, the baby was unrestrained and bedding materials were added.
What Should I Do?
Parents and caregivers should NEVER use the Fisher-Price Snuga Swing for a sleeping baby. Never add blankets or other materials to the swing.
Infants should never use a Snuga Swing (or any other baby product with an inclined seat) while unsupervised, unrestrained, or with added bedding material, due to the risk of suffocation and death.
What Is The Snuga Swing?
The Snuga Swing® is a baby product that is manufactured by Fisher-Price. The swing rocks a baby in front-to-back and side-to-side motion. They were sold on Amazon, Toys R Us, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Target stores nationwide from October 2010 until January 2024.

Safety Officials Call Snuga Swing Recall “Not Good Enough”
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Commissioner Richard Trumka warned that “Fisher-Price’s Snuga recall is not good enough to keep babies safe.”
In a statement, he said: “My advice: get your $25 refund and then throw this product away; do not keep it in your homes because even after the so-called “repair” this product will still be unsafe for infant sleep.”
