November 20, 2014 — The FDA is warning that Forever Beautiful Bee Pollen contains sibutramine and phenlophthalein, dangerous hidden ingredients.
The recalled supplements include:
- Forever Beautiful Bee Pollen (UPC # 6333090804632)
- Forever Beautiful Infinity (UPC # 633090804649)
They were sold online in bottles with 60 diet pills from July 7 through November 3, 2014. The manufacturer, REFA Enterprises, LLC, marketed Forever Beautiful as a weigh-loss supplement.
Sibutramine
Sibutramine was originally sold as Meridia, an appetite-suppressing prescription medication for the treatment of obesity. That all changed after study found a 16% increased risk of cardiovascular side effects compared to a placebo.
In October 2010, the FDA withdrew approval and warned that sibutramine can elevate blood pressure and pulse-rate, increasing a patient’s risk of seizure, heart attacks, arrhythmia, and stroke.
Phenolphthalein
Phenlphthalein is a laxative that was available for most of the 20th century in over-the-counter products like Ex-Lax and Feen-A-Mint. It was pulled off the market after a study found evidence of carcinogenic (cancer-causing) side effects in rats. Other side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, irregular heartbeat, and more.
