Galanz Retro Refrigerators Recalled After Fire Linked to One Death
In July 2026, Galanz Americas and the CPSC recalled about 121,680 Retro Refrigerators that were sold nationwide at Home Depot and on Amazon.com. The recall was announced in response to 34 reports of fires, one of which was linked to a death by a local fire department.
Where Were They Sold?
Galanz Retro Refrigerators, manufactured by Zhongshan Galanz of China, were imported by Home Depot and Galanz Americas Limited Company. They were sold from January 2019 through September 2022 for between $330 and $520.
What is the Problem?
If the refrigerator is plugged in and running, it can catch on fire without warning, inside a kitchen, garage, or apartment. According to the recall:
“The recalled refrigerators’ internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards.”
How Many People Were Injured?
The CPSC is aware of 34 reports of fires involving the refrigerators. One of those fires was linked to a fatality, according to a local fire department report. Appliance fires like these commonly bring smoke inhalation, burns, and significant property damage along with them, beyond the loss reported to the CPSC.
How To Identify Recalled Refrigerators
- Model numbers: BCD-215V-62H, GLR76TRDER, GLR76TBKER, GLR76TBEER, GLR76TWEER
- Date codes between December 2018 and December 2020 (format YYYYMM), printed on a white label on the upper left corner on the back of the unit
- Colors: black, blue, red and white
- 7.6 cu. ft. capacity, about 58 inches high, 24 inches deep and 21 inches wide
- Sold at Home Depot stores nationwide and on Amazon.com, January 2019 through September 2022, for $330 to $520
What Should I Do?
Consumers should unplug the recalled refrigerator immediately and stop using it until it has been repaired.
