OCOOPA Hand Warmers Recalled After 350 Burn Injuries, One Death Reported
In July 2026, Shenzhen Street Cat Technology, doing business as OCOOPA Direct, recalled about 1.5 million rechargeable hand warmers that were sold under the OCOOPA brand-name.
Safety officials reported that OCOOPA had received 1,480 reports of the hand warmers overheating, resulting in 15 fires and 350 burn injuries. Tragically, one of those incidents was linked to the death of an 83-year-old woman in February 2026. She was a resident on Diego, California.
What is the Problem?
The recalled hand warmers are designed with a built-in lithium-ion battery. This battery charges through a USB-C port. According to the CPSC, the batteries:
“[Batteries] can overheat and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death,” according to the recall notice, which also cites fire and burn hazards.
Because the hand warmers are designed to be held in a pocket or pressed against the skin for warmth, a battery that overheats can burn a person before they have time to react.
How Many People Were Burned?
OCOOPA has reported the following incidents connected to the recalled hand warmers:
- 1,480 reports of overheating
- 15 fires
- 350 burn injuries
- 1 reported death, an 83-year-old consumer in San Diego, California, in February 2026
These figures come directly from the company’s reports to the CPSC and may not reflect every incident tied to the recalled hand warmers, since not everyone who is hurt reports it.
How To Identify Recalled OCOOPA Hand Warmers
The recall covers OCOOPA-branded rechargeable hand warmers. These items were sold in pairs that join together with a magnet, along with a charging cable. The recalled model-numbers include:
- UT3053 (UT3 Lite)
- UT3056 (UT4 Young)
- ZLS-118
- ZLS-118S
- ZLS-118D
- H01
- H01(PD)
The model number and a three-digit batch number are printed on the underside of each hand warmer. They were sold at Amazon.com, Ocoopa.com, Ocoopa.net, and Walmart.com from September 2018 through May 2026 for between $15 and $60.
What Should I Do?
