July 2, 2019 — Trader Joe’s, Green Giant Fresh and other brands of fresh butternut squash, cauliflower, and zucchini spirals were recalled after a product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall was issued by Growers Express for products manufactured at a production facility in Biddeford, Maine.
The following products are included in the recall:
- Green Giant Fresh® Cauliflower Crumbles “Fried Rice” Blend
- Green Giant Fresh® Cauliflower Sweet Potato Crumbles
- Green Giant Fresh® Butternut Diced
- Green Giant Fresh® Butternut Cubed
- Green Giant Fresh® Ramen Bowl
- Growers Express® Butternut Peeled
- Signature Farms® Cauliflower Crumbles
- Green Giant Fresh® Zucchini Noodles
- Trader Joe’s® Butternut Squash Spirals
- Trader Joe’s® Zucchini Spirals
The items were sold at certain Trader Joe’s, Stop & Shop, Shaws, Ruby Robinson (PFG), Procacci, Native Maine, Four Seasons, Food Lion, C&S, Bozzutos, and Big Y Foods.
Most of the items have a “Best If Used By” dates between June 26 and June 29, 2019.
The recall was issued voluntarily after the Massachusetts Department of Health reported that a single product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
The bacteria Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe, life-threatening food poisoning infections, with complications such as meningitis, bloodstream infections (sepsis), and miscarriage or stillbirth among pregnant women. Symptoms may include a high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
