December 3, 2019 — Trader Joe’s and other stores in 31 states have recalled sushi, seafood, salads, queso, and spring rolls due to a risk of Listeria contamination.
The voluntary recall was announced by Fuji Food Products, Inc. on November 27.
No illnesses have been reported. The recall was issued after a routine FDA inspection detected Listeria bacteria in a facility in Brockton, Massachusetts.
The recall includes Trader Joe’s California Roll, Spicy Cali Roll, Tempura Shrimp Crunch Roll, Smoked Salmon Philly Roll, Brown Rice California Roll, Tofu or Shrimp Spring Roll, Banh Mi Style Salad, Smoked Salmon Poke Bowl, and Queso Fundido.
The recall also include includes Okami® California Roll, Spicy California Roll, Supreme Combo, Supreme Sampler, Brown Rice Classic California Roll, Sushi Platter, Seafood Combo, Tempura Shrimp Roll, and Salmon Philly Roll.
The retailers include 7 Eleven, Walgreens, Food Lion, Hannaford, Trader Joe’s, Giant Eagle Supermarkets, Porkys, Bozzutos, Supreme Lobster and Superior Foods.
The products were sold in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The symptoms of an infection with Listeria monocytogenes may include a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In pregnant women, Listeria infections can also cause miscarriages, stillbirths, or infection of the newborn baby.
