September 23, 2014 — Hearth & Home, a Minnesota-based gas fireplace company, has issued a proactive recall for about 20,000 indoor and outdoor fireplaces. About 4,800 of them may have a defective valve that can leak, posing a fire hazard.
Hearth & Home has received no reports of fires or incidents related to the valve. However, as a precautionary measure, they are recalling fireplaces under the following brands:
- Hearth & Home
- Heat-N-Glo
- Heatilator
- Outdoor Lifestyles
- Quadra Fire

The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) warns:
“Consumers should immediately stop using the gas fireplaces, stoves, inserts and log sets, turn off the gas to the units and contact the fireplace store where the unit was purchased to arrange for a free inspection and, if necessary, valve replacement. The firm’s dealers are contacting known purchasers.”
The fireplaces were sold for $1,200-8,000 at fireplace stores nationwide between May and June 2014. Dealers should be contacting customers directly to schedule a free inspection. The inspection and valve replacement (if necessary) will be provided free of charge.
Second Gas Fireplace Recall This Year
This is not the first gas fireplace recall this year. In April, nearly 16,000 fireplaces were recalled after the manufacturer received 9 reports of fires and explosions. The recall affected 22 models of fireplaces, including Kozy Heat, Ambiance, and Stellar Hearth Products.
