July 30, 2020 — Miles Industries has issued another recall for Valor H5 gas fireplaces due to a fire and burn injury hazard.
The most recent recall was issued after a report of a delayed ignition due to pilot degradation that may cause gas in the fireplace to accumulate prior to burner ignition.
“When ignition takes place, it can cause the glass window to shatter, posing burn and laceration hazards,” according to the recall notice.
The recall involves 2 models of Valor H5 propane gas fireplaces: Model 1150ILP with serial number ranging from 20001 to 20365 and model 1150JLP with serial number ranging from 20366 to 21502.
Valor H5 gas fireplaces were previously recalled in December 2018 because the trim around the fireplaces can leak hot air exhaust, posing a burn hazard. No injuries were reported at the time of the recall, but the company did report one incident involving a charred mantle.
The recalled gas fireplaces were sold at Southern Fireplaces & More, Custom Hearth, On Fire, Abercrombie & Co., Southern Hearth & Patio stores and other stores from July 2014 through March 2020 for between $3,700 and $5,500 (not including installation).
