Illinois Woman Burned by Pressure Cooker Files Lawsuit Against Walmart

Illinois Woman Burned by Pressure Cooker Files Lawsuit Against Walmart

February 9, 2026 — Walmart has been sued by a woman from Illinois who was burned when the lid exploded off her Farberware Pressure Cooker while it was still pressurized.

The plaintiff, a woman from Illinois named Taylor M., said the incident occurred in January 2024 while using a Farberware 7-in-1 Digital Programmable 6-Quart Pressure Cooker (Model No. WM-CS6004W).

According to her complaint, she was using the pressure cooker normally when the lid “suddenly and unexpectedly” exploded off the pressure cooker’s pot and ejected the scalding-hot contents.

She suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” as a result of this incident. Her lawsuit is seeking compensation for her painful bodily injuries, medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish, and diminished enjoyment of life.

The lawsuit accuses Walmart of advertising the pressure cooker with statements about the safety features.

Specifically, the Owner’s Manual claims that, as pressure builds, the float valve will rise up and “not allow the lid to be opened” until the pressure drops back down to safe levels.

Instead, her lawsuit claims that the Farberware Pressure Cooker is defectively designed because the lid can open when the unit is pressurized.

She also claims that the “safety features” can fail to prevent the lid from being rotated, opened, or removed with normal force when the unit is pressurized.

Her lawsuit was filed on January 13, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois (Urbana Division) — Case Number 2:26-cv-02019-CSB-EIL.
