Overview
Pancreatic cancer often does not cause symptoms until the disease has already spread to other tissues (metastasized) to the lymph nodes or other organs. The first signs may be pain when the tumor grows so large that it presses on nearby organs or nerves. It may also cause jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes) after blocking the bile duct.
Pancreatic Cancer Symptoms
The most common symptoms of pancreatic cancer include:
- Abdominal pain, which may:
- Radiate to the back
- Be located in the upper-abdomen or belly
- Come and go, sometimes after eating or while lying down
- Feel like a sharp pain, dull ache, belly ache, or back pain
- Abdominal swelling
- Jaundice (yellowish color on the skin or whites of the eyes)
- Nausea, vomiting
- Diarrhea, indigestion
- Lack of appetite
- Unexplained weight loss of 10 pounds or more
- Urine is dark or cola-colored
- Stools are light or clay-colored
- Lymph nodes in the neck are swollen
- Itching (palms, soles of the feet)
- Unexplained onset of diabetes or high blood-sugar, caused if the pancreas stops producing insulin
- Malaise (generally feeling sick, weak, tired)
