What is Shower-to-Shower?

Shower-to-Shower is marketed as an after-shower body powder with the slogan, “Just a sprinkle a day helps keep odor away.” The powder primarily consists of cornstarch and talcum powder, which help absorb moisture. It has been sold for decades by Johnson & Johnson.

Talcum Powder and Asbestos

Talcum powder, an ingredient in Shower-to-Shower, is a powdered mineral that is commonly found in cosmetics, baby powder, feminine hygiene products, and more. In its natural state, talcum contains asbestos, a known human carcinogen. However, since 1973, federal law has prohibited asbestos in consumer products containing talc.

What is the problem?

The problem is that a number of recent studies have linked asbestos-free talcum powder products to an increased risk of ovarian cancer. Tissue samples from women with ovarian cancer have also detected talc fibers in the ovary, suggesting that talcum can move through the vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, and into the ovaries.
