June 3, 2014 — Laboratory testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has discovered that six different dietary supplements advertised for male sexual enhancement actually contain sildenafil (Viagra) or tadalafil (Cialis).
It is illegal for supplements to contain active pharmaceutical drugs. These ingredients are not listed on the label and users may not be aware they are taking prescription drugs.
Ingredients in the recalled supplements can potentially interact with nitrates, which are found in certain medications used to treat diseases like type-2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Men with these diseases also commonly have erectile dysfunction, which is why they might be attracted to supplements.
Hidden ingredients in the recalled supplements include:
- GoldReallas: sildenafil and thiosildenafil
- Full Throttle on Demand: propoxyphenyl sildenafil
- 3 Hard Knights: sildenafil and thiosildenafil
- Dick’s Hard Up: tadalafil
- Eyeful: hydroxythiohomosildenafil
- Liu Bian Li: sildenafil
