What Was Recalled?

In July 2026, Taylor Farms de Mexico recalled all iceberg lettuce it sourced from central Mexico, telling the FDA the product has the potential to be contaminated with Cyclospora. The recall covers both food service lettuce shipped to restaurants and retail bagged lettuce sold to consumers.

The retail items most shoppers will recognize are sold under the Marketside brand:

• Marketside Iceberg Salad, 12 oz and 24 oz
• Marketside Shredded Lettuce, 8 oz and 16 oz

The recalled retail bags carry Best if Used By dates from July 18, 2026 through August 3, 2026. Taylor Farms says it has stopped receiving product from the implicated lot, suspended distribution of the central Mexico iceberg lettuce, and notified its customers.

Where Was the Recalled Lettuce Sold?

According to the FDA, Marketside-brand recalled iceberg products were sold at select Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

More broadly, Taylor Fresh Foods distributed the recalled iceberg products from June 29 through July 16, 2026 in 27 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

How Do I Know If My Lettuce Is Recalled?

Check the brand and the Best if Used By date on the bag. Marketside Iceberg Salad in 12 oz and 24 oz sizes and Marketside Shredded Lettuce in 8 oz and 16 oz sizes, with Best if Used By dates between July 18 and August 3, 2026, are covered by the recall.

The FDA advises consumers who bought the recalled lettuce to discard it or return it to the store for a full refund. Taylor Farms is directing consumers with questions to its customer care team at 855-455-0098.

Is the Marketside Recall Related to the Taco Bell Cyclospora Outbreak?

Yes. The recall was prompted by the same multistate Cyclospora outbreak that has been linked to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell.

The FDA’s traceback investigation converged on Taylor Farms de Mexico as the supplier of the iceberg lettuce used by the Taco Bell locations where people got sick, and the company then pulled all of its central Mexico iceberg lettuce from the market, retail bags included. Has the Lettuce Tested Positive for Cyclospora?

Not as of July 20, 2026. The FDA has described the lettuce as having the potential to be contaminated and has NOT confirmed a positive Cyclospora test result. Taylor Farms has characterized the recall as a precautionary step taken voluntarily while the investigation continues. In plain terms, the recall is based on the traceback and the risk of contamination rather than a confirmed lab result, and the outbreak investigation remains open.

What Is Cyclospora and What Are the Symptoms?

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness spread by a microscopic parasite, Cyclospora cayetanensis. According to the CDC, symptoms usually begin about a week after a person swallows the parasite in contaminated food, though onset can range from as soon as 2 days to 2 weeks or more.

Symptoms of cyclosporiasis may include:

• Watery diarrhea (the most common symptom)
• Loss of appetite
• Weight loss
• Cramping
• Bloating and increased gas
• Nausea
• Fatigue
• Vomiting, body aches, headache, or low-grade fever (less common)

What makes this parasite so easy to overlook is that standard stool tests do not detect it, so a provider has to order a Cyclospora test specifically. The CDC says that without treatment, symptoms can last from a few days to a month or longer and can seem to fade and then return.

How Many People Got Sick?

The outbreak behind the recall is large. As of July 16, 2026, the FDA reported 1,644 people infected with Cyclospora who reported eating at Taco Bell, with 94 hospitalizations and no deaths, and illness onset dates from May 13 to July 13.

Those restaurant cases sit inside a much larger national surge. CDC surveillance reported roughly 7,000 cyclosporiasis illnesses across 34 states as of July 13, 2026. The total case-count from the CDC is actually a combination of about 1,645 lab-confirmed cases with more than 5,100 additional cases still under analysis, and at least 141 hospitalizations.

Because the CDC assumes about a six-week reporting lag, the totals are expected to keep climbing, and the number of people sickened by recalled retail lettuce is still coming into focus.

Has Taylor Farms Been Tied to Cyclospora Before?

Yes. In 2013, a bagged salad mix traced to a Taylor Farms de Mexico processing facility was linked to a cyclospora outbreak that sickened 631 people across 25 states, with many illnesses reported at Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants. What Should I Do If I Got Sick?

The FDA recommends that anyone with cyclosporiasis symptoms contact a health care provider to report symptoms and receive care, especially if they ate iceberg lettuce in the two weeks before getting sick.
