June 17, 2022 — A woman who was severely burned by a Mealthy MultiPot Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit in California.
The lawsuit was filed by Melissa M., a woman from Yucca Valley, California, who “suffered serious and substantial burn injuries” when she opened the lid on her pressure cooker in August 2020.
The incident allegedly involved a Mealthy MultiPot 2.0 (Model Number MMP-650-US), which is advertised to “meet and exceed safety and functional standards.”
Instead, the lawsuit accuses Mealthy Inc. of misleading consumers and selling a pressure cooker with dangerous safety defects.
Specifically, according to the lawsuit, the lid of the pressure cooker is removable with built-up pressure, heat and steam still inside the unit.
The plaintiff claims that she “was able to remove the lid while the pressure cooker retained pressure, causing her catastrophic bodily injuries and damages.”
Mealthy Inc. is accused of negligence for failing to warn consumers about the serious risk, redesign the pressure cooker, or issue a recall.
The Mealthy Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed against Mealthy Inc. on June 6, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California — Case Number 5:22-cv-00937.
