How Many Babies Got Sick from Nara Formula?
On June 13, 2026, the CDC reported that 3 babies were hospitalized with infant botulism after they were fed Nara Organics Whole Milk Powdered Infant Formula.
The babies who got sick lived in California, Washington, and Pennsylvania. All 3 babies survived after being treated with BabyBIG (Botulism Immune Globulin Intravenous), a medicine that consists of anti-botulism toxin antibodies.
According to the FDA, the 3 babies were diagnosed with toxin type A infections. All of the babies developed symptoms between April and May 2026, with the last reported illness on May 31, 2026.
The FDA noted that the 3 infants in this outbreak were exposed to the following Nara lot codes: 709125280E14F2, 709125288E14F2, and 708125174E14F2. The recall, however, covers all lots on the market.
What Is the Botulism Risk in Nara Infant Formula?
In June 2026, Nara Organics recalled all lots of its powdered infant formula due to the potential risk of contamination with the bacteria that causes botulism: Clostridium botulinum.
Nara Organics said it issued the recall in response to the FDA, which recommended the recall due to the severity of the illnesses and the epidemiological evidence.
How Does Infant Botulism Develop?
Infant botulism is a rare but serious illness that can lead to paralysis and death if left untreated. It occurs when an infant swallows spores of the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. When the spores begin to grow, they can colonize an infant’s immature digestive system, where they produce the botulinum neurotoxins. These neurotoxins are some of the most poisonous substances that are known.
Symptoms of Infant Botulism
The FDA notice describes the following signs and symptoms in affected infants:
- Constipation
- Poor feeding
- Ptosis (drooping eyelid)
- Sluggish pupils
- Low muscle tone
- Difficulty sucking and swallowing
- Weak or altered cry
- Generalized weakness
- Respiratory difficulty, and possibly respiratory arrest
Has Any Formula Tested Positive for Botulism Bacteria?
As of June 16, 2026, Nara infant formula has NOT tested positive for C. botulinum, but testing is ongoing. In the meantime, the company is recalling all of its infant formula “out of an abundance of caution.” On its own recall page, Nara tells parents to “stop using all Nara Organics infant formula immediately.”

The recall covers all lots of Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula in two can sizes:

The lot code is printed on the bottom of each can. The recalled lot codes include 408125075E14F2, 708125076E14F2, 708125083E14F2, 408125139E14F2, 708125141E14F2, 708125145E14F2, 708125174E14F2, 709125273E14F2, 709125280E14F2, 709125288E14F2, 409125307E14F2, 70926019ENNB, 70926029ENNB, 70926035ENNB, 70926039ENNB, and 70926042ENNB.
Where Was It Sold?
Nara Organics formula was manufactured in Europe and distributed nationwide in the U.S. across Target retail stores, Target.com, and Nara.com between July 2025 and June 2026. Nara notes that the 700g cans were sold at Target and that Target did not sell the 400g cans.
What Should I Do With Recalled Nara Formula?
Parents and caregivers should stop using Nara Organics infant formula immediately. If your child consumed the formula and you still have it at home, the FDA recommends recording or photographing the container information before discarding it. You may want to keep any opened formula labeled “DO NOT USE,” because if your baby gets sick, it is possible that your state health department will want to test it.
Can I Get a Refund?
Yes. Nara will automatically refund customers who ordered from its website in May or June 2026, with funds returned in 10 to 15 days. Customers whose last order was before May 2026 can photograph the bottom of each can and submit a refund request form. Customers who bought 700g cans at Target can return the product to a Target store or follow Target’s online return instructions.

Nara Recall Follows the ByHeart Infant Formula Botulism Recall
The Nara recall is the second major infant formula recall due to an outbreak of botulism. In November 2025, ByHeart recalled all of its Whole Nutrition Infant Formula in response to a multi-state outbreak of infant botulism.
In that outbreak, Clostridium botulinum was later identified in some samples of ByHeart’s formula, and the case count grew to dozens of hospitalized infants nationwide. These repeated recalls for infant formula are now raising serious questions about the risk of botulism from powdered infant formula.
