Nivea Pure Fine Talc is a body powder with a mild fragrance that is advertised to both men and women. Talcum powder is a super-soft mineral that absorbs moisture, cuts down on chafing, and has many other purposes. It is is also used on babies to prevent diaper rash.
How Are Women Exposed?
Talcum powder has been advertised to adult women since the 1950s. It is promoted as a feminine hygiene product to absorb moisture, usually every day after bathing. Historically, talcum powder was also used on surgical gloves, menstrual products, condoms, and more.
Does Talc Get in the Ovaries?
Yes. The first study to prove that talcum powder can accumulate in the ovaries was in the 1970s, when doctors examined tissue samples from several women who died of ovarian cancer and found tiny particles of talc embedded in the tissue.
How Do I Know if Talc Caused My Cancer?
