Moldy Novaform Mattresses From Costco Recalled for Mold
In September 2023, FXI recalled about 48,000 Novaform mattresses after hundreds of complaints from people who found mold.
What is the Problem?
The recalled Novaform mattresses may have been exposed to water during the manufacturing process, which could allow mold to develop. There were 541 people who reported finding mold on the mattresses.
Was My Mattress Recalled?
The recall involves certain Novaform ComfortGrande 14-inch and Novaform DreamAway 8-inch Mattresses that were sold at Costco between January 2023 through June 2023.
The mattresses were sold exclusively at Costco stores in the Northwest United States and in the San Francisco Bay area and online at www.costco.com, according to the recall.
The recall only includes mattresses that were manufactured at FXI’s San Bernardino, California facility between January 2, 2023 and April 28, 2023
What is the Risk?
People who use these moldy mattresses could develop an infection, allergies, lung problems, or other health problems. The risk is very serious for people who are allergic or sensitive to mold, people with underlying lung problems, or people with a weakened immune system.
Symptoms of Breathing Moldy Mattress
A moldy mattress can cause physical symptoms, such as:
- Coughing
- Wheezing
- Shortness of breath
- Blocked airways
- Congestion
- Itchy or watery eyes
- A cold or cough that doesn’t go away
- Skin rashes
- Worsened allergies
- Hospitalization
What Should I Do?
FXI is offering a free replacement mattress or a full refund of your purchase price. FXI will pick up the existing mattress from your home and, if a replacement is requested, deliver a new one, at no cost to you.
