Costco Umbrella Recall

In June 2022, SunVilla™ Corporation recalled more than 400,000 10-foot Solar LED Market Umbrellas from Costco after reports of the lithium-ion battery in the solar panel overheating and catching on fire.

What is the Problem?

The recalled solar-powered patio umbrellas have LED lights on the inside arms of the umbrella. These lights are powered by a solar panel with lithium-ion batteries. The problem is that the batteries in the umbrella’s solar panels can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards.

How Many People Were Injured?

One person suffered a smoke inhalation injury when their SunVilla Umbrella battery caught on fire. Overall, there were 5 reports of the batteries catching on fire, including 3 fires indoors when the batteries were charging, and 2 fires outdoors when the batteries were on top of the umbrella.

Was My Solar Umbrella Recalled?

The recalled SunVilla solar umbrellas were sold exclusively at Costco nationwide in the U.S. and Canada and online at www.costco.com from December 2020 through May 2022 for between $130 and $160.

The recall involves all 10-foot Solar LED Market Umbrellas in a variety of colors. The umbrellas have LED lights on the arms of the umbrella and a black solar panel battery puck at the top of the umbrella. The solar puck has a black cover marked with “YEEZE” or “YEEZE 1.”

What Should I Do?

Immediately stop using the recalled umbrellas, remove the solar panel from the umbrella, store the panel out of the sun and away from combustible material, and not charge the panel with the AC adaptor.

Customers can return the umbrellas with the solar panel to any Costco warehouse nationwide for a full refund. For more information, visit www.sunvilla.com/pages/recall .
