Oster Countertop Toaster Ovens Recalled
In September 2025, Sunbeam Products recalled more than 1.2 million Oster® French-Door Countertop Ovens that were sold since 2015 after at least 95 people were burned when the spring-loaded French doors unexpectedly snapped shut.
95 People Burned by Oster Toaster Ovens
As of September 22, 2025, the recalled Oster® French-Door Countertop Toaster Ovens were linked to 95 reports of the doors unexpectedly closing, resulting in burn injuries. The reports include 2 people who needed treatment for 2nd-degree burns.
Oster downplayed the severity of these burns, describing them as “consistent with everyday kitchen use and comparable to what can happen with common cooking appliances” on the recall website.
Oster described 93 injuries as “minor” 1st-degree burn injuries that did not need medical attention. Two people suffered 2nd-degree burns that required medical treatment, but no hospitalizations or severe injuries were reported in the recall.
Recall Limited to Ovens With French Doors
The recall only involves Oster® Countertop Toaster Ovens with French Doors, which means they have two doors side-by-side that open outward, rather than a single door that opens by pulling it down.
What is the Problem?
The recalled Oster Countertop Toaster Ovens have spring-loaded French doors. These doors can get extremely hot during cooking. When a person using the oven opens the oven, the French doors may not latch securely and suddenly snap shut.
Burn Hazards for Users and Bystanders
Burn injuries can occur when the hot oven door snaps shut onto the person’s hands, fingers, or arms. This incident could also result in extremely hot foods being dropped or spilled, which is a burn hazard for the person using the oven and innocent bystanders (such as children, pets, or others) who are nearby.
How To Identify Recalled Toaster Ovens
The recall includes 1.2 million Oster® French-Door Countertop Ovens that were sold from August 2015 through July 2025 with the following SKU Model Numbers:
- TSSTTVFDXL
- TSSTTVFDDG
- TSSTTVFDMAF
- TSSTTVFDDGDS
- TSSTTVFDDAF-033
- TSSTTVFDXLPP-033
- TSSTTVFDDAF
You can find the model number on the back of the appliance.
All of the recalled countertop ovens have French doors made of glass with metal handles. The recalled appliances include Convection Ovens, Air Fryer Ovens, Toaster Ovens, and different control types (analog dials or digital push-buttons).
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled Oster French-Door Countertop Ovens were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco, Walmart, Amazon.com, and Overstock.com from August 2015 to July 2025 for about $140-$250.
Sunbeam Products recalled about 1,290,000 countertop ovens that were sold in the United States. Another 104,195 countertop ovens were sold in Canada. According to Health Canada, no injuries in Canada were reported as of September 22, 2025.
How Serious Are 2nd-Degree Burns?
Two people suffered 2nd-degree burns, which are also called partial-thickness burns because they damage the epidermis (outer layer of skin) and dermis (inner layer of skin). The symptoms may include:
- Severe pain
- Skin redness
- Blisters
- Swelling
- Skin discoloration
- Scarring
- Skin graft for healing
- Disfigurement
What is the Risk?
No severe burns or hospitalizations were linked to the recalled Oster French Door Countertop Ovens, but 2 people needed medical treatment for 2nd-degree burns.
If a 2nd-degree burn is very deep, it can severely damage the dermis (inner layer of skin) and the victim may need to be hospitalized for treatment. The risks include permanent scarring, disfigurement, severe pain, skin changes, skin discoloration (lighter or darker than surrounding skin), skin grafts, infection, and other injuries.
Can I Get a Refund?
No. Instead of a refund, Sunbeam Products is urging customers to register for a free repair kit by visiting the Oster Countertop Oven recall website: https://recall.oster.com/.
The free repair kit will contain a clip-on device that customers most install themselves. This device “helps keep the oven doors securely open during use,” according to Sunbeam Products.
What Do Lawsuits Claim?
Lawsuits can be filed by people who were injured by dangerous products. Every case is unique, but these lawsuits commonly accuse manufacturers of:
- Manufacturing and selling products that are defective and unsafe
- Failing to warn customers about safety hazards
- Negligence (failing to do what they should have done to keep people safe)
- Prioritizing profits over the safety of their customers
- Continuing to sell a defective product
- Failing to immediately recall a dangerous product after the first reports of serious injuries
- Failing to provide customers with a refund, or other adequate remedy (such as a replacement product that has a safer design)
- And more
How Can a Lawsuit Help?
Lawsuits are commonly filed against the manufacturers of defective products. When these lawsuits involve people with serious injuries, lawyers will typically seek a payout for their client’s pain and suffering, medical bills, and other damages. Class action lawsuits may also be filed by people who bought the product.
