Trader Joe’s Turkey Wraps Linked to Listeria Risk
On September 19, 2025, the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) published a Public Health Alert for a potential risk of Listeria contamination in Trader Joe’s Turkey Gobbler Wraps that were sold nationwide in early September 2025.
Where Were They Sold?
The recall involves refrigerated turkey wraps that were sold at Trader Joe’s stores nationwide in early September 2025.
How To Identify Trader Joe’s Turkey Wraps
The products can be identified by the following information:
- Trader Joe’s Turkey Gobbler Wraps
- Product Description: Roasted Turkey Breast, Stuffing, Cream Cheese & Sweetened Dried Cranberries in a Wheat Tortilla with a Festive Dipping Sauce
- NET WT. 10 oz. (284g)
- BEST BY SEP 16, 2025
- Produced on September 10, 2025
- Sold in a 10-oz. clear plastic clamshell package
- Establishment number “P-1644” inside the USDA mark of inspection
Did Anyone Get Sick?
No illnesses were reported, but “food contact surfaces associated with this product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes,” according to the warning. People who eat food that is contaminated with Listeria may develop a severe, life-threatening illness.
Was There a Recall?
No. The contaminated Trader Joe’s Turkey Gobbler Wraps were not recalled because all of the wraps are past their “best-by” date of September 16, 2025, and no products are still in stores.
Food safety officials explained that “a recall was not requested because the affected product is no longer available for purchase.”
What is the Risk?
Eating food that is contaminated with Listeria can cause listeriosis, an infection that is very dangerous for elderly adults, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and newborns.
What Should I Do?
Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider. The symptoms of a Listeria infection can appear on the same day you eat contaminated food, but it sometimes takes up to 10 weeks for the symptoms to appear. This infection can be deadly.
Symptoms of Listeria
Food safety officials warned about potential symptoms of listeriosis, such as:
- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Headache
- Stiff neck
- Confusion
- Loss of balance
- Convulsions (seizures)
- Some people develop diarrhea or gastrointestinal symptoms before other symptoms appear
Pregnant women may have no symptoms, or only a mild flu-like illness, before suffering a miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn baby.
According to the USDA Public Health Alert:
“Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.”
