November 8, 2019 — Simmons Prepared Foods recalled over 2 million pounds of chicken that may be contaminated with metal pieces, according to the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS).
The products include Simmons Ready to Cook Chicken Wing Sections, Tenderloins, Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast, Whole Legs, Whole Chicken Without Giblets, and more.
The recall also includes 33-pound cases of Town & Country Halal Chicken Leg Quarters.
There have been no confirmed reports of any injuries or illnesses.
The recalled chicken items were produced from October 21, 2019 to November 4, 2019 and marked with establishment number “P-1949,” “P- 486” or “P-5837” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The chicken was shipped to institutions in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.
Institutions may include restaurants, schools, hospitals, or distributors. The recall does not include chicken sold in stores. Health officials are concerned that some of the chicken may be frozen and in freezers.
The problem was discovered by Simmons Prepared Foods establishments during further processing. Institutions that have purchased these products are urged not to serve them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
