Salmonella Outbreak at Pasha Mediterranean Grill
In September 2018, the San Antonio Metropolitan Health Department confirmed that 255 developed Salmonella and 12 people were hospitalized after eating at the Pasha Mediterranean Grill restaurant located at 9339 Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78240.
What Caused the Outbreak?
Pasha co-owner Kamran Vandi said that Metro Health officials suspect that contaminated hummus is the source of the outbreak.
The reports of food poisoning from began surfacing soon after Labor Day weekend and have continued to grow in the week since.
1st Lawsuit Filed in Pasha Food Poisoning Outbreak
The first lawsuit has been filed by Samuel Manago, a Navy veteran who was hospitalized for several days at the San Antonio Military Medical Center after eating “beef shawarma” at Pasha on August 31.
Findings of the Health Department Inspections
Health inspectors visited Pasha Mediterranean Grill on September 3 and reported several concerning findings, including that at least 2 employees were sick with fever and diarrhea in the previous week.
One sick employee was sent home, food was not being held at proper temperatures, food handlers used the same gloves to do multiple tasks, or they failed to change gloves and wash their hands.
Symptoms of Salmonella Food Poisoning
The most common symptoms of a Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps for 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without needing medical treatment.
