Why Not Natural Moringa Capsules Recalled for Salmonella

In January 2026, a supplement company based in Houston, Texas called Why Not Natural and the FDA announced a recall for its Why Not Natural® Organic Moringa Green Superfood Capsules after they were linked to an outbreak of Salmonella illnesses in multiple states.

The recall involves “Pure Organic Moringa Green Superfood Capsules,” a dietary supplement that contains Organic Moringa Leaf Powder Moringa Oleifera (1000 mg per capsule).

They were distributed nationwide between July 2025 and January 2026 on Amazon, other online retailers, and an e-commerce website for Why Not Naturals.

They were packaged in a bottle containing 120 capsules. The bottle has Lot # A25G051 and Expiration Date 07/2028 on the bottom. Consumers are urged to stop using the product and return it to the company for a full refund.

What Happened?

The FDA is investigating a large outbreak of Salmonella illnesses that has been linked to a variety of “Super Greens” supplements containing Moringa Leaf Powder.

Health officials have identified two strains of Salmonella in this outbreak:

  • Why Not Natural® Organic Moringa Green Superfood Capsules have been linked to Salmonella Newport infections.
  • Live It Up® Super Greens Supplements were linked to illnesses with Salmonella Typhimurium. These products were recalled on January 15, 2026.

How Many People Got Sick?

“Super Greens” supplements containing Moringa Leaf Powder have been linked to at least 65 cases of Salmonella in 28 states, according to the Outbreak Investigation from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The illnesses were reported between August 2025 and January 2026. No deaths have been reported, but 14 people were hospitalized due to a severe illness. The CDC cautioned that the true number of illnesses is likely much higher than the official case count.

What is the Risk?

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA.

Healthy adults usually recover from a Salmonella infection within 4 to 7 days. The symptoms often include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

The FDA also warned about a possibility of severe complications:

“In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.”
