UPDATE: Peloton Recalls Tread+ Treadmills for Risk of Severe Injury & Death

On May 5, Peloton issued two separate recalls for about 125,000 Tread+ Treadmills and another 1,050 Tread Treadmills after dozens of severe injuries and 1 death were reported.

The Tread+ Treadmill recall was announced after a 6-year-old child died in March 2021 when they were sucked under the rear roller of the treadmill. Another 72 adults, children, pets and/or objects have reportedly been pulled under the Tread+ treadmill, including 29 children who were injured:

  • Cuts, scrapes and bruises
  • 2nd- and 3rd-degree abrasions
  • Broken bones
  • Lacerations
  • Brain injuries
  • Death

Peloton Tread Treadmills Recalled for Touchscreen Falling Off

Tread Treadmills were also recalled due to an injury hazard. There were 18 reports of the touchscreen loosening, and 6 reports of the touchscreen detaching and falling off. Tread Treadmills were sold in the U.S. from November 2020 to March 2021. Several people in Canada and the U.K. reported minor scrapes, abrasions, cuts, and bruises.

What is the Problem?

In April 2021, Peloton was slammed with a class action lawsuit from a woman who claims the Tread+ treadmill is “unreasonably dangerous” due to “significant design flaws.”

The lawsuit claims that Peloton “marketed the device as safe and appropriate for use by families in the home, even though its design makes it inherently and uniquely dangerous to children.”

Lawsuits Filed After Child Dies Under Peloton Treadmill

The lawsuit was filed soon after a child died when they were sucked under a Peloton Tread+ treadmill in March, which prompted the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to warn consumers to stop using the Peloton Tread+ due to a risk of severe injuries or death to children, pets, and adults.

What Is the Risk?

The CPSC warned that 39 children and 1 pet were injured by the Peloton Tread+ treadmill. The agency warned that the treadmill “poses serious risks to children for abrasions, fractures, and death.” There were also “multiple reports of children becoming entrapped, pinned, and pulled under the rear roller of the product,” the CPSC warned.

Adults Also Face Injury Hazards on Peloton Tread+ Treadmills

Adults may also fall and suffer injuries if an object gets sucked under the Tread+, according to the CPSC. Furthermore, at least one child was injured while a parent was running on the treadmill, which means that the hazard “cannot be avoided simply by locking the device,” which is what Peloton CEO John Foley recommended back in March.

Can I Join a Class Action?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but we are not filing a Peloton class action lawsuit at this time. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits for people who were injured by a Peloton Tread+ treadmill when they were sucked underneath.

About Class Action Lawsuits

Class action lawsuits have been filed against Peloton, but not for people who were injured. Instead, the class actions are seeking compensation for everyone who owns a Peloton Tread+ by people who claim that the treadmills are dangerously unsafe to have at home.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits

Our law firm is filing individual lawsuits so that we can focus on helping people maximize financial compensation for severe injuries and wrongful deaths. There is no excuse for selling exercise equipment that can seriously injure or kill a child, or delay a recall.

If you or your child were harmed by a Peloton treadmill, you could be eligible to file a lawsuit against Peloton and seek financial compensation for your pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost income, permanent injuries, or the wrongful death of your loved one.
