2.2 Million Peloton Bike Seats Recalled for Fall & Injury Risk
In May 2023, Peloton recalled nearly 2.2 million Peloton® Bikes because the seat post can break off and cause riders to fall.
What Happened?
Peloton said it received 35 reports of the seat post assembly breaking during use as of April 30, 2023. At least 13 people fell off the bike and suffered injuries, including a wrist fracture, lacerations and bruising.
Was My Peloton Bike Recalled?
The recall involves original Peloton Bikes that were sold in the U.S. between January 2018 and May 2023. The model number PL01 is displayed on a label inside front fork, near the flywheel.
What Should I Do?
Peloton is asking owners to immediately stop using the recalled exercise bikes and contact the company to register for a free replacement seat post, which members can install at home.
You can register at https://www.onepeloton.com/replacement/checkout.
Other Serious Recalls From Peloton
Peloton has announced several other major recalls for treadmills and exercise bikes. Here are two examples:
In October 2020, Peloton recalled PR70P clip-in bike pedals because they can break off unexpectedly during use. The pedals were installed on Peloton bikes that were sold from July 2013 to May 2016. Peloton received 120 reports of the pedals breaking, including 16 people who were injured. Five people needed medical attention, such as stitches.
In May 2021, Peloton recalled all Tread and Tread+ Treadmills after a 6-year-old child died when he was sucked under the back roller of the treadmill. Overall, there were more than 70 reports of adults, children, pets and/or objects being pulled under the rear of the treadmill, including 29 children who were injured.
