Bazzini’s Pistachio Recall
In October 2018, Bazzini LLC of Allentown, Pennsylvania recalled 4,000 pounds of pistachio nut products due to a possible risk of food poisoning with Salmonella. No illnesses were reported.
What Pistachios Were Recalled?
For a complete list of recalled pistachios, visit the FDA recall notice. The following products were recalled:
- Bazzini’s Roasted and Salted Colossal Natural Pistachios
- Bazzini’s Super Colossal Natural Pistachios
- Bazzini’s Rams Head Natural In-Shell Pistachios
The products were distributed to retailers in New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Massachusetts, Washington DC, and Virginia.
What is the Problem?
The pistachios were received from one of Bazzini’s suppliers and a recall was issued after a finished product tested positive for Salmonella in a routine sampling program.
Salmonella Food Poisoning
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious, sometimes life-threatening illnesses in people with vulnerable immune systems, elderly adults, and young children. In healthy adults, the symptoms may include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
“In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.”
What should I Do?
Consumers should return the recalled pistachios to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-477-3234 during the hours of 9AM-5PM or via email at recall@bazzini.com
