July 26, 2017 — Polaris has issued a safety recall for all of the 2015-2017 model-year RZR 170 off-road vehicles after 4 reports of fires when fuel leaked and hit an electrical wire.
The recall involves approximately 16,800 of the 2015, 2016, and 2017 model-year RZR 170 recreational vehicles due to a fire hazard.
There are two safety problems that could result in fires or injuries:
“The fuel tank neck can crack or the wiring harness can overheat or short circuit, posing fuel leak and fire hazards.”
No injuries were reported, but Polaris received 102 reports of cracked fuel tank necks, 4 reports of fires, 28 reports of burning, smoking, melted and/or shorted wires.
The recalled RZR vehicles had two seats and came in red, white, or blue. Polaris sold the vehicles nationwide from February 2015 through July 2017 for $4,600 to $4,800.
Consumers can identify the recalled vehicles by finding the VIN number located on the frame of driver-side front wheel well. The following RZR 170s are being recalled:
