What Happened?
In August 2026, Goal Zero recalled approximately 46,200 YETI 3000X portable power stations after 2 reports of the circuit board overheating, smoking, or catching on fire.
Goal Zero has pushed a firmware update to address this safety hazard to the Goal Zero app. The company is urging customers to update the firmware immediately.
What Happened?
The CPSC states that Goal Zero has received 4 reports of the power stations catching on fire, overheating, and/or smoking. There have been no reports of injuries or property damage.
What Is the Problem?
The circuit board inside a YETI 3000X power station manages how the lithium-ion battery charges and discharges energy. The unit weighs about 92 pounds and it can store over 3,000 watt-hours of energy. If the circuit board malfunctions, a fire could potentially spread to a garage, RV, home, or dry vegetation nearby.
According to the recall posted on August 20, 2026:
“The recalled power station’s circuit board can overheat, posing a risk of serious injury from fire and burn hazards.”
How To Identify a Recalled YETI 3000X
- “Goal Zero” and “YETI 3000X” printed on a nameplate under the lid
- Silver and black, about 24.4 inches high, 18.5 inches wide, and 22.3 inches deep
- Weighs about 92 pounds
- Yellow handles and a digital display with electrical ports
- Sits on a rolling cart with two built-in wheels and a telescoping handle
- Sold at REI stores nationwide, and online at Costco.com, Backcountry.com, Goalzero.com and other retailers, from May 2020 through August 2025
Has Goal Zero Had Prior Fire-Related Recalls?
This is not the first time Goal Zero has recalled products due to a serious fire hazard. Other recalls include the Yeti Link expansion modules and EC8 power cables and the Solar Series Combiner cables, which was linked to 2 fires and property damage.
