Retrospec Beaumont Plus ST Bicycles Recalled for Crash Hazard
In June 2024, the bicycle manufacturer Retrospec announced a voluntary recall for certain Beaumont Plus ST Bikes with disc brakes due to a risk of brake failure, which poses crash and serious injury hazards.
What is the Problem?
Retrospec recalled the Beaumont Plus ST Bikes with disc brakes because front disc brake rotor and brake pads can be misaligned, which can cause brake failure. No injuries were reported, but brake failure poses a crash hazard and a risk of severe injuries or death.
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled Beaumont Plus ST Bikes were sold at bicycle stores nationwide from February 2024 through March 2024 for about $400. About 530 bikes were sold in the U.S., according to the recall.
How To Identify Recalled Bicycles
The recall involves Beaumont Plus ST City Bike Step-Thru frame bicycles with disc brakes in bluebell (blue), eggshell (white), or mint (green) colors. The name “Retrospec” is printed on the frame and the “R” logo is printed on the front fork.
The bikes also have a silver label near the pedals reads: “Restrospec, Made in Tianjin, China and batch: 12-15-2023”.
What Should I Do?
Retrospec is urging customers to immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and take them to the authorized dealer where they were purchased for free installation of a new front fork.
