August 16, 2021 — A woman who was severely burned by a Bella Pressure Cooker that exploded has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, Sensio Inc.
The lawsuit was filed by Lisa D., a woman from Seattle, Washington, who was injured by a Bella 5-Quart Pressure Cooker (Model Number JY-PC20US-5P).
On May 24, 2018, she claims she suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” after she was able to easily twist open the lid on the pressure cooker when it was still pressurized.
Opening the lid allowed “its scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker” and onto her body, according to the lawsuit.
She blames the incident on the failure of the pressure cooker’s so-called “safety valve,” which was advertised to feature an “extremely safe and secure locking system.”
The owner’s manual specifically claims that the “pressure cooker cannot be opened once pressure is reached” — but instead, the plaintiff was able to easily open the lid, resulting in severe burns.
She accuses Sensio Inc. of manufacturing and selling defective Bella Pressure Cookers and failing to warn consumers about the risk of severe burn injuries.
The lawsuit was filed against Sensio Inc. (doing business as Bella) on May 20, 2021 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington (Seattle) — Case Number 2:21-cv-00664
