5,000 Steamist Shower Seats Recalled for Fall & Laceration Hazard

On January 18, 2024, Steamist recalled wall-mounted tilt-up shower seats because the mounting brackets can corrode and break, causing people to fall or suffer laceration injuries when they sit in the seat.

What Happened?

Steamist said it received 62 reports of the shower seats breaking, including 4 reports of injuries involving falls or lacerations.

How To Identify Recalled Shower Seats

The recall involves wall-mounted Steamist Tilt-Up Bath & Shower Seats with model numbers SBS-101BN, SBS-101PN, SBS-101PC, or SBS-101ORB.

These folding shower seats have 3 wood slats made of teak, joined together by support rods extending from two wall mounting brackets.

They have brushed nickel, polished nickel, polished chrome, or oil-rubbed bronze finishes on the support rods and bracket covers. The recalled shower seats measure 20 inches wide by 13 inches deep.

The recall involves about 3,900 shower seats that were sold in the U.S., plus another 733 that were sold in Canada and 126 that were sold in Mexico.

They were sold at specialty plumbing supply outlets in the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 2009 through February 2015 for between $490 and $660.
