December 27, 2022 — Sundance Spas (also known as Jacuzzi Hot Tubs) recalled about 23,700 hot tubs that can get dangerously hot and cause burn injuries or heat stroke.
Sundance Spas warned that the temperature sensor may not relay the correct water temperature to the control. This could cause the water to get hotter than the set temperature, or above the maximum of 104ºF.
No injuries were reported, but Sundance Spas said it received 185 reports of incorrect temperature readings, according to the recall.
This recall involves Jacuzzi J-200, J-300, J-400 and J-500 hot tubs and Sundance Spas 680, 780, 880 and 980 Series spas. Consumers can check the model number on a silver plate in the equipment bay.
The recalled hot tubs and spas were sold from July 2021 through December 2022 for $6,500 to $30,000 by authorized dealers.
Before using the hot tubs or spas, Sundance Spas is asking consumers to check that their hot tub or spa is no hotter than 104ºF using an accurate external thermometer.
Sundance Spas is also asking consumers to contact an authorized dealer to schedule a free repair to replace the sensor.
