July 29, 2025 — An 18-year-old girl from California has been left with severe burns on her face and body after a tragic tabletop fire pit accident.
The young woman agreed to talk about her injuries to raise awareness. According to ABC 7 News:
“We were making s’mores and what happened to me is called fire jetting. It’s when an alcohol-fueled pit basically explodes.”
The accident involved “flame-jetting,” which is a serious safety hazard that occurs when a person pours liquid alcohol into a tabletop fire pit.
If there is an existing flame in the fire pit (which may be invisible), it can suddenly ignite the fuel that is being poured into the fire pit. The container can also shoot out a jet of flammable liquid and gases.
These types of injuries can be life-threatening or even deadly, according to safety officials. Unfortunately, many people are still unaware of the burn and fire hazards associated with these products.
