Target Recalls 330,000 Frigidaire Mini Fridges for Fire Hazards

In January 2026, Curtis International expanded a recall to include another 330,000 portable tabletop Frigidaire Mini Fridges that were sold at Target because they can short-circuit and catch on fire.

What is the Problem?

The problem is that an internal electrical component can short-circuit and ignite the plastic housing, which poses a fire hazard and a risk of burn injuries. No injuries were reported in the expanded recall.

How Many Fires Were Reported?

Curtis International expanded the recall to include 330,000 red mini fridges sold at Target after 6 more fires were reported. Curtis International said there were “at least six reports of the model EFMIS121 minifridges catching fire, with property damages.”

How To Identify Target Mini Fridges

The recall involves Frigidaire® Mini Fridges that were sold in red at Target stores and online at Target.com. These mini fridges have model EFMIS121 and a range of serial numbers between A2001 to A2310.

They have the name “Frigidaire” printed on the front of the unit. They were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com from January 2020 through October 2023 for about $30.

Are Any Other Mini Fridges Recalled?

Yes. The original recall in July 2025 involved about 634,000 mini fridges with models EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149 and EFMIS175, and a limited range of serial numbers.

Dozens of incidents were reported in the July 2025 recall:

“Curtis International has received at least 26 reports of the minifridges smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating and catching fire, with property damages totaling more than $700,000. Two consumers reported smoke inhalation injuries.”

What Should I Do?

Customers should immediately stop using the recalled Frigidaire Mini Fridges with model numbers:

  • EFMIS129
  • EFMIS137
  • EFMIS149
  • EFMIS175
  • EFMIS121 (red mini fridge sold exclusively at Target)

The recall is limited to units manufactured between January 2020 and December 2023 that do not include a “-B” or “-C” in the model number.

Can I Get a Refund?

Yes. First, you should visit the recall website at https://www.recallrtr.com/minifridge to check the serial number on your unit to verify if it is being recalled.

If your mini fridge is being recalled, you can follow instructions on the website to register for a refund. You must unplug and cut the power cord and write “RECALL” using a permanent marker on the front door, and then dispose of the recalled mini fridge according to local laws.
