August 27, 2024 — The family of an oil rig worker who was severely burned in a flash fire explosion said he is slowly recovering from his severe injuries.
The incident occurred in Mynton, Utah, at an oil rig owned by Uinta Wax Operating.
The family has set up a GoFundMe for donations.
On August 14, there was a flash fire on an oil rig in Duchesne County, Utah at approximately 6:40 a.m. At the time, approximately 13 workers were on-site preparing for routine maintenance when a fire broke out.
The victim suffered 3rd-degree burns covering about 80% of his body, according to his family. He was flown to the University of Utah Burn Center and remains hospitalized, according to local news reports.
“We are truly sorry this incident occurred and that someone who is part of our oilfield team was critically injured,” said Jason Pearce, President of Uinta Wax Operating. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the person injured and their family. We are still gathering information and investigating to understand the cause of the incident. Our team at the site did respond quickly to the incident, attended to the person injured, and stabilized the area.”
