Walmart Grill Brushes Recalled Over Risk of Serious Internal Injuries

In October 2026, Walmart recalled about 4,477,655 Expert Grill Brushes with metal wire bristles due to a risk of serious internal injuries when people accidentally swallow the wires.

The recall covers 5 models of Walmart’s Expert Grill Brushes, which have various designs, such as handles made of black plastic or stainless steel. Some of the brushes were also sold with a metal scraper attached.

What Is the Problem?

Grill brushes are used to clean and scrape debris off the grill grates, including encrusted material that may be difficult to remove. If a wire bristle detaches from the brush, it may be nearly invisible on the grill grates. The wires can transfer to food that is cooked on the grill, and when someone eats the food, they may swallow the wire.

The wires can get stuck in the throat or digestive tract. This poses a risk of serious internal injuries, including intestinal perforations or choking. The person may need emergency surgery to remove the wire.

According to the CPSC recall notice:

“Small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes and stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.”

How Many People Were Injured?

No injuries were reported for the Expert Grill Brushes that were recalled by Walmart.

However, other grill brush recalls have involved dozesn of incidents. For example, in its expanded recall for Cuisinart grill brushes:

“Conair is aware of at least 54 reports and reviews where small wire bristles detached from the grill brushes, including three reports of consumers who swallowed metal bristles and sought medical treatment to remove the bristles from their digestive tract or throat.”
