March 16, 2020 — WinCo Foods recalled frozen blackberries and mixed berries because a bag tested positive for Norovirus.
No illnesses were reported, but Norovirus is a highly-contagious virus that typically causes 48 hours of diarrhea, vomiting, and cramps. It can survive on frozen foods and cause illness if the food is eaten raw.
The following frozen blackberry products are affected by the recall:
- WINCO FOODS FROZEN BLACKBERRIES, 16 OZ. BAG – UPC: 70552-30502, Best By Code Dec/09/2021.
- WINCO FOODS FROZEN BERRY MEDLEY, 16 OZ. BAG – UPC: 70552-30522, Best By Code Dec/09/2021.
- WINCO FOODS FROZEN BERRY MEDLEY, 32 OZ. BAG – UPC: 70552-30512, Best By Code Dec/09/2021.
The frozen berry products were sold at WinCo Foods in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, Texas, and Utah.
They were supplied by Rader Farms of Lynden, Washington. Last year, WinCo also recalled red raspberries from Rader Farms after a bag tested positive for Norovirus. No illnesses were reported.
In 2019, frozen blackberries were recalled by multiple companies for Norovirus contamination, including Walmart’s Great Value® frozen blackberries, Save-A-Lot’s Tipton Grove® mixed berries, and Cornerstone Premium Foods frozen blackberries.
