Norovirus is a virus that spreads when a person ingests the feces of another person who has been infected. Outbreaks of food poisoning can potentially occur when sewage water is sprayed on ready-to-eat foods, such as fresh produce or frozen foods that are eaten uncooked.

A person who has been infected with Norovirus generally shows symptoms within 12 to 48 hours of eating contaminated food. The symptoms involve up to 3 days of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, frequent bouts of watery diarrhea, low-grade fever, and muscle aches.
