April 8, 2014 — Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen contains hidden pharmaceutical drug ingredients with severe, life-threatening side effects, according to a new warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen was previously recalled in October 2012 after the FDA found sibutramine. Apparently the Chinese manufacturer re-packaged the recalled products with a red sticker that says “Genuine” and “New Anti-Counterfeit,” but they still contain dangerous pharmaceutical drugs.
Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen may contain:
- Sibutramine (appetite-suppressant): Taken off the market in October 2010 over concern about cardiovascular side effects, including increased blood pressure and heart rate, which could be serious for people at risk of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke.
- Phenolphthalein (laxative): Not approved for use in any pharmaceutical drug over concern about carcinogenic (cancer-causing) side effects.
Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen was sold online, in stores, spas, fitness centers, and by licensed healthcare professionals as a diet and weight-loss supplement. The FDA is now investigating distributors and may take enforcement action, such as seizing products or pursuing criminal charges.
