April 12, 2017 — After nearly two dozen reports of garbage disposals shooting out broken pieces of metal, a recall was issued for nearly 150,000 disposals that were sold under a variety of brand-names.
There were 22 reports of metal shards ejecting out of the garbage disposal because a component inside came loose. Three people were hit by flying pieces of metal. No injuries were reported.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the following warning:
“A metal component inside the disposal can break off and come out of the disposal during use, posing an impact hazard.”
A variety of brand-names are affected by the recall, including Barracuda, Franke, Frigidaire, Gemline, Kenmore, Kitcheneater, Luxart, Moen, Stream33, and Waste King, as well as a few unbranded garbage disposals.

They were sold from December 2015 until March 2007 at stores like Best Buy, HD Supply, Menards, plumbing supply stores, and online retailers like Amazon.com. The ¾-horsepower models cost $80-$370 and the 1-horsepower models cost $100-$450.
Anaheim Manufacturing is offering a free replacement garbage disposal. Consumers can contact the company to schedule a free installation by calling Anaheim at Anaheim Manufacturing at 800-628-0797 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
