April 5, 2024 — About 2 million Black+Decker Garment Steamers have been recalled by Empower Brands after another 82 people were burned by hot water.
The recall is a major expansion of a previous recall that was announced in November 2022. Empower Brands is now offering a refund for all units, rather than a repair.
Since the original recall in November 2022, another 82 people were burned by the recalled Black+Decker Garment Steamers, including 7 people who suffered severe 2nd-degree burns.
Another problem is that 94 of these incidents involved garment steamers that were repaired after the previous recall, including 19 people who were burned.
“There have been continued reports of burn injuries involving units that were repaired as part of the previous recall in November 2022. The remedy has now been changed to a refund for all units.”
The recalled garment steamers were sold nationwide at Walmart, Target, Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond and online from June 2021 through February 2024 for between $14 and $23.
Empower Brands is urging customers to immediately stop using the recalled BLACK+DECKER Model HGS011 Easy Garment Steamers, and contact Empower Brands to get a full refund.
